Rec Coaches General Info

Welcome prospective Coaches!

First of all, allow us to say thank you for your interest in volunteering. This league needs volunteers just like you, as we can't do it without your help! Below, we hope to answer some of the common questions sent to us. However, if your question is still unanswered, please feel free to reach out to an Age Group Coordinator or the Director. Their contact info can be found here

- Do I have to have had previous experience as a coach or have played soccer?

-
No! If you are completely new to the game, we can pair you with an experienced coach. We also have resources available to assist you.

Will my child play on my team?

Yes. Unless you request for them to be with someone else.

- What is the difference in Head Coach and Assistant Coach roles?

- Both coaches will run practices and participate in games. The major difference is that the Head Coach is the primary point of contact between the parents/players and the Age Group Coordinator. If we don't have enough volunteers of one role or the other, we may change your role from Head Coach to Assistant Coach or from Assistant Coach to Head Coach. Ultimately, we have resources available to support and guide you should any questions arise.

- Are there meetings that I have to attend?

- Yes! There is a Coaches Meeting & Clinic prior to the start of the season. There will also be a mid-season coaches clinic. (More info to come.)
- Attendance at the coaches meeting & clinic is required to guarantee a voucher at the end of the season.

- Voucher... What is a voucher?

- At the end of a season, we like to thank our volunteers with a voucher good for one free rec registration for the following season.

- Is there a background check?

- Yes! More information about that at the coaches meeting.

- Can I request a practice night?

- Absolutely! During the process of updating your volunteer status, there will be questions about practice day and time requests, what size coaches jersey you will need, and a spot for special requests. (ie: I would like to coach with Bob Smith, he's my neighbor.)
- Please note: Practices will be held on one weeknight M-F at either 6p or 7p depending on the age group and field availability.

If volunteering as a coach interests you, please be sure to change your volunteer status on your account. We pull all info from the system, so if the email or cell number is incorrect, we can't reach out.
